Yes. Most commercial insurance policies have medical nutrition therapy (MNT) coverage for Preventative Nutrition Counseling and or for specific Medical Diagnoses. As a beneficiary, you will want to inquire about each benefit (preventive or medical diagnosis nutrition services). Please note that Preventive Nutrition Services are covered under Health Care Reform Act, and being informed about your nutrition counseling benefits is within your rights as a beneficiary. The agencies that set forth the preventive care guidelines are the Advisory Committee on immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); The United States Preventive Services Tasks Force (USPSTF); Health Resources and Services Administration: and the American Academy of Pediatrics/Bright Futures/Health Resources and Services.
Usually, the only requirement to utilize your preventive nutrition services at no additional cost with no additional co-pays is a REFERRAL from your primary and or specialty doctor`s office.
